The Great Gray Owl (Strix nebulosa) lives in the boreal forests of the North America. It is the tallest owl in the Americas but small in actual body size. The Great Gray is a stealthy hunter in remote wilderness where it preys on small mammals such as voles and lemmings. It is the Provincial Bird of Manitoba. The Great Gray Owl is also known as “the phantom of the north”. That would be an awesome name for a super hero.
